Research work in the Laboratory of Modulation of Gene Expression is focused on studies of gene expression control and enzyme systems in laboratory strains of model bacterial species (Escherichia coli) and on construction and analysis of strains of industrial bacteria that are used in biotechnology-based syntheses of various compounds and environmental applications (e.g., Corynebacterium glutamicum, Rhodococcus erythropolis)
Research topics:
Miroslav Pátek:
● Transcription of Corynebacterium glutamicum genes controlled by sigma factors of RNA polymerase
● Assignment of sigma factors of RNA polymerase to individual promoters
● Analysis of Corynebacterium glutamicum promoters and development of expression systems
● Development and use of the in vitro transcription system for Corynebacterium glutamicum
● Construction of a model of the regulatory network controlled by sigma factors of RNA polymerase
● Production and use of the enzymes involved in aldoxime and nitrile metabolism from various sources (bacteria, fungi, plants)
Maria Brennerová
● Genetic analysis of bacteria degrading xenobiotics (petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and chloroethenes)
● Microbial bioremediation methods for biodegradation of persistent aromatic pollutants
● Assessment and prediction of natural attenuation processes in contaminated soil and groundwater
